At Home Matcha Latte

I know I'm speaking for most of us when I say I miss stopping at my favorite coffee shop every morning. Luckily with this time at home and a lot of practice, I think I've perfected my at-home matcha making routine. Despite what I thought, you don't need a large fancy machine at home to make a good latte. Here's how to do it with easy steps and simple ingredients:

1 tsp ceremonial grade matcha (this one is my favorite!)

6-8 ounces of your milk of choice (Oatly is my favorite)

Whisk (traditional bamboo whisk works best)

Strainer (I have this one)

A Small Bowl

  • Begin by heating up both your milk and water separately. In a kettle, heat up about 4 ounces of hot water. Separately, heat up approximately 6-8 ounces of milk.
  • Next, set up your strainer over the bowl you will be mixing the matcha in like the photo below. Place 1 tsp of matcha onto the strainer.

  • Begin sifting the matcha to get out any clumps. I use a spoon and rub it against the strainer until all the matcha is sifted and in the bowl below.

  • Now that the matcha is sifted, add only a splash of water to the bowl. You should add very little so when mixed with the matcha, it becomes a thin, paste-like solution. I usually add about 1.5-2 ounces.
  • Next, take your whisk and stir the matcha and water in a W-shaped formation. You should be going back and forth roughly with the whisk until it seems that there are no more clumps in the solution. It should look like the below:

  • Add your milk of choice to the mug. Then, pour your matcha solution into the mug of milk.

  • Next (optional), add your sweetener of choice to the latte. I like adding a tiny bit of light agave.
  • Stir & Serve!
